Technology
The MSET program is designed around the use of technology, so many of the courses fit under this theme. Taking the courses via distance provided me with extensive experiences with email, online chats, discussion boards, use of the VTel system, Internet research, and online course management systems. I have become comfortable enough with each of these to continue using them in other areas of my professional life. I also gained an understanding of programming languages and networking components that I had not been exposed to previously. I was introduced to several new software programs. Projects for my courses required working with software that I had very little or no experience using. Some of the software programs I used included iMovie, Adobe Photoshop, Inspiration, FrontPage, Macromedia Flash, HyperStudio, and Windows 2000 Server. Additionally, I gained experience with hardware such as digital still cameras and video cameras, scanners, and laptop and desktop computers. I disassembled and reassembled a computer, installed an operating system, installed a NIC and its drivers, and created a small computer network. Through completing assignments, I became aware of the administrative responsibilities required to create and maintain a reliable infrastructure and to ensure effective integration of technology into the classroom. The technical skills I have gained through the MSET program have given me the confidence to explore new options that I would not have considered before.
The following MSET objectives were met under the theme of Technology:
