Course Reflections
This course was
taken during my first semester in the MSET program. It was held at the DSU campus in conjunction
with our orientation to the Master's program. Before this course I had
very little experience with statistics and research in general. During our
stay in Madison, we heard from guest speaker, Chris Dede, Professor in the
School of Education at Harvard University. His presentation was on action
research. He gave several definitions of action research, and stated that
it is an ongoing process that is more successful when it is a collaborative
effort. We also learned to identify different aspects of qualitative and
quantitative research, and discussed different types of surveys that are used in
conducting research.
This course has helped me to become
more confident in analyzing research and examining the
methods used within the research to determine the applicability and validity of
the research. Since taking the course, I have paid more
attention to educational research and its significance
regarding the No Child Left
Behind legislation.
