Biography
of
Sandra Ann Nightingale
My name is Sandy Nightingale. I graduated from Kimball High School in 1979 and the University of South Dakota
at Vermillion in 1983. I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in
Elementary Education, with concentration areas in Math and Social Sciences.
I started out my
teaching career in the fall of 1983 at Wessington Springs, teaching Reading and
Math to seventh and eighth grade students. The following year, a first
grade teaching position opened up in Wessington Springs and I requested a
transfer. I taught first grade there for two years.
I was married to Craig Nightingale on June 15, 1985,
and we moved to a farm north of White Lake. After a bad winter of driving
on treacherous roads, I was fortunate to be hired by the White Lake School District
where I taught a combination classroom of fourth, fifth, and sixth graders for
three years. I took a Leave of Absence from teaching during the fall of
1989 to the spring of 1990 to stay home with our two young children. When
I returned to teaching in the fall of 1990, I taught first grade and I have
continued to teach first grade in White Lake since that time.
I attended the TTL Academy at Dakota State University
during the summer of 1999 where I became hooked on technology. During the
fall of 1999 to the summer of 2000, I completed the Web Master training through
the New Jersey Institute of Technology. In June of 2001, I began working
towards my Master's Degree in Educational Technology through DSU. During
that time, I also attended the DTL Academy at White Lake School the summer of
2003. I plan to graduate from the MSET program in May of 2004.
My husband farms and is a high school wrestling coach
for Kimball/White Lake. We have six beautiful children, Jennalee,
16 years; Ethan, 14 years; Zane, 11 years; Maria, 8 years; Kathryn, 2 years; and
Levi, 5 months. We keep very involved in our Church, school, and
community. Both Craig and I play in a community band for special events.
I especially enjoy music and following the kids to their various wrestling, volleyball,
softball, football and
track events.
